SPYAIR’s relationship with anime runs through much of the band’s recorded history. Released on October 21, BEST OF ANIME brings 17 of those songs together, placing recent themes alongside new versions of earlier material recorded by the current lineup.
The distinction matters. Since YOSUKE became SPYAIR’s vocalist in 2023, the group has built a new chapter with songs such as “Orange,” the theme of HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle. Here, that newer repertoire shares space with music associated with Gintama, BLEACH and Mobile Suit Gundam. Rather than simply collecting familiar recordings, the album lets the present-day SPYAIR take ownership of songs from different stages of its history.
The tracklist opens with “Awake,” used for The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System, and includes “Kill the Noise,” “Orange,” “RAGE OF DUST,” “Imagination,” “SakuraMitsutsuki” and “Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!!).” The Gintama selections were also revisited for the October 10 digital EP Wadachi - New Version -. The contrast between those re-recordings and the newer songs is the album’s most compelling reason to listen.
BEST OF ANIME is available digitally and on CD. Its limited physical edition adds a Blu-ray of the May 14, 2026 RE-BIRTH concert at LINE CUBE SHIBUYA, plus behind-the-scenes footage.
The release arrives just before SPYAIR’s first European tour in eight years, with six concerts from Vienna on October 30 to Milan on November 8, including Paris at Cabaret Sauvage on November 2. Listeners in Europe will soon hear how this renewed repertoire translates to the stage.
