羊文学 (Hitsujibungaku)’s 2021 song “夜を越えて” (“Yoru o Koete”) is making an unusual journey from music to cinema. It inspired the short story behind Saturday Night Theater, a feature film scheduled for release in Japan in spring 2027.

Writer Yukiharu won the second Hitsujibungaku Prize, a fiction competition organized with monogatary.com, with that story. Ryota Bando and Akari Takaishi star in the adaptation, which will also feature the original song. The film announcement details the connection.

Hitsujibungaku is a Japanese Alternative Rock band now comprising vocalist-guitarist Moeka Shiotsuka and bassist Yurika Kasai. The original recording appeared on the 2021 EP you love, and the band’s official discography documents that release. The film brings the story inspired by that recording to a new audience.
