Centimillimental’s “kanawanai” turns on three words

Centimillimental’s new anime opening moves from impossible love to acceptance through three similar-sounding Japanese phrases. “kanawanai” arrived digitally on October 7.

Centimillimental gives “kanawanai” (かなわない、) a small but telling turn in its chorus. First comes 叶わない, a love that cannot come true. Then 敵わない, the admission that you cannot compete with the person your crush loves. Finally, 構わない: you do not mind, as long as you can stay beside them. The similar sounds move the song from disappointment to a decision.

The song was written for Hello, I Am a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion! (どうも、好きな人に惚れ薬を依頼された魔女です。). Rose, a witch, is asked by the knight she loves to prepare a potion for someone else. Ryo Hanai co-arranged the track, whose pop production incorporates strings.

“kanawanai” was released digitally on October 7, 2026. A double A-side CD single follows on November 18.
